Off-duty NYPD cop killed by hit-and-run driver

An off-duty NYPD cop was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike early Sunday morning when he pulled over after being involved in a minor accident, police said.

Officer Vincent Harrison was driving his 2013 Chevy Cruz down the highway’s southbound lanes near Newark International Airport when his car was struck by a 2003 Ford Escape at around 3 a.m., according to the New Jersey State Police.

Harrison, who worked in the 100th Precinct in Rockaway, Queens, pulled his car to the side of the road, got out and walked over to the other vehicle, which came to rest in the center-right lane.

He was then struck and killed by a 2008 Infiniti sedan, police said. The driver of the Infiniti fled the scene.
