Bratton commends cops for ‘spitting’ murder suspect arrest

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton tweeted his praise for the four cops who cuffed a Brooklyn murder suspect when they stopped him for spitting on a subway platform Thursday evening.

The cops, Sergeant Eric Hayes and Police Officers Roshan Patel, Max Bereznyak and Charles Friscia — all assigned to Transit District 34’s Anti-Crime team – were patrolling the Stillwell Avenue station in Coney Island Thursday night when they saw Euzebelin Abellard spit on the Q train platform around 5 p.m.

They moved in and nailed him for the violation — but when they ran his name on their NYPD-issued smartphone, they learned he was suspected of murder.

After being questioned for more than 20 hours at the 67th Precinct, he was charged with murder as well as criminal use of a firearm.

He was arraigned on a murder charge Saturday and held without bail.

A wanted poster had been issued for Abellard, 32, in connection to the Nov. 20 slaying of a man who ran a numbers racket in Crown Heights.

“The above should be considered ARMED and DANGEROUS,” it said.

He and an unidentified accomplice allegedly opened fire while attempting to rob victim Jean-Claude Bernagene, 51, of his gambling proceeds, sources said.
