Grayson Allen may be punished for serial tripping

Grayson Allen’s sudden affinity for tripping opponents could cost Duke.

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the conference is looking into Allen’s latest trip of an opponent. In Thursday’s win over Florida State, the Duke sophomore was caught on camera appearing to intentionally trip Xavier Rathan-Mayes, two weeks after he did the same to Louisville’s Ray Spalding.

“He wanted to keep playing physical,” Allen said, according to the Fayetteville Observer. “So I tried to walk away from it as he was grabbing me. We ended up tangling up and falling.”

“Whatever someone is dishing out to me inside the game, inside the rules of the game, I’m going to give it right back,” he added to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Players around college hoops, including Villanova’s Kris Jenkins, are taking notice.

Allen, the unlikely hero of last year’s national championship game, is on pace to become the ninth player in Duke history to lead the team in scoring and assists, but depending on the ACC’s response to his tripping, could miss a game. And the 15th-ranked Blue Devils have little depth to speak of.
