Councilman dropped from committee seats over horse carriage ban concern

A Brooklyn legislator who voiced concerns about a push by the mayor and City Council speaker to shrink the horse-carriage industry was booted from two prominent committees, sources told The Post on Wednesday.

David Greenfield was bounced at least temporarily from the council’s leadership and budget-negotiating teams, prestigious appointments made by Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

His sidelining was announced at a leadership meeting Tuesday, according to City Hall sources.

“The plan is to give him a chance to earn it back,” said one council source. Sources said Mark-Viverito and other council leaders were infuriated over Greenfield’s call for delaying a vote on the horse- carriage proposal earlier this month — a top priority for Mayor de Blasio and his donors, and backed by Mark-Viverito.

After his ouster was reported online by City & State late Wednesday, Council officials flatly denied it.

“Council Member Greenfield is a valued member of both leadership and BNT,” said spokesman Eric Koch. “The speaker appreciates diversity in opinion on her leadership team.”

He would not say what was announced at Tuesday’s leadership meeting.

Greenfield referred requests for comment to the speaker’s office.
