Ambulance company bails on patient pickups due to bankruptcy

The bankruptcy of a private ambulance company has forced the city’s 911 system to pick up the slack to serve patients at seven private hospitals in The Bronx and Manhattan, the FDNY announced Wednesday.

TransCare, which operated 27 ambulances that provided 81 shifts daily at four hospitals in The Bronx and three in Manhattan, sent out e-mails yesterday advising clients the company would no longer be picking up patients due to the firm’s financial problems, sources said.

The FDNY will handle the increased volume by deploying emergency medical technicians and paramedics on overtime.
