New York’s Metropolitan Life building, whose iconic clock tower soars 700 feet above Madison Square Park, snagged the title of world’s largest building in the early 1900s. A century later, nearby luxury condominium One Madison joined the skies above the park, rising more than 600 feet. Soon, both buildings will rest in the shadow of 45 E. 22nd St. — a Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed luxury residential enclave that will tower 777 feet above ground.

Set on a granite pedestal, this glassy 65-story, 83-unit condo will deliver a number of posh perks when it’s completed in 2017: a duplex library, floor of fitness amenities and a 54th-floor lounge in the clouds, equipped with a prep kitchen and dining space. All of the interiors — both common and private — will come elegantly adorned by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio.

Perched above it all is a dazzling gem: a 6,032-square-foot duplex penthouse with four bedrooms and six bathrooms, on the market as of today for a cool $38 million. The home boasts a 1,350-square-foot living room and a roomy master suite with two marbled bathrooms, all encased in floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal panoramic vistas.

“You have 360-degree views of the planet,” says Ian Bruce Eichner, CEO of the Continuum Company, which is developing the tower. Those views include beacons like One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building, but they also encompass the Hudson and East rivers — with glimp-ses as far as LaGuardia Airport. “You’ll see the smoke come off the runways when the planes land,” Eichner boasts.
