Teacher has troubling history of assaulting kids: prosecutor

A Manhattan elementary school teacher charged with assaulting a second-grader insisted he’s still a quality instructor as he left court Wednesday night.

“Are you a good teacher?” a reporter asked. “Sure, em’” answered Osman Couey shortly after posting $1,000 cash bail.

Couey, 53, was busted after allegedly throwing a 7-year-old across a hallway at PS 194 last December. The incident was caught on video.

The child, who was asked to leave the classroom, tried to reenter it when Couey shoved him into the hallway, according to ADA Chloe Kendall.

The child fell onto a school psychologist’s leg and burst into tears, the prosecutor said.

“It’s a strong case that involves the defendant attempting to assault the 7-year-old,” she said.

The prosecutor also said that Couey allegedly threw a special need student down a flight of stairs in 2013.

Judge Kevin McGrath set bail at $1,000 cash. Couey who has been teaching at PS 194 in Manhattan since 1993, is now suspended.

He has a history of reprimands, according to the Department of Education.
