Hillary Clinton doubled down Tuesday on her resistance to releasing transcripts of her paid speeches, arguing that she’s being held to a different standard than other presidential candidates.
“Why is there one standard for me and not for everybody else?” she said to applause during a CNN Democratic town hall in Columbia, SC.
Under pressure from Bernie Sanders to release the transcripts, including for three 2013 speeches to Goldman Sachs worth $675,000, Clinton said she’d agree “if everybody does it,” adding:
“And that includes the Republicans, because we know they have made a lot of speeches.”
Sanders said Clinton is getting a “little bit nervous” because voters question why Wall Street is giving “millions and millions” to her super PAC.
“I am very happy to release all of my paid speeches to Wall Street . . . There ain’t none,” Sanders said in the first half of the South Carolina forum, where the two candidates appeared separately.
Clinton argued that she has a strong plan to take on Wall Street and that she’s been transparent about her positions to rein in big banks.
