Can you actually fix your skin with these ‘beauty drinks’?

No, we’re not talking about margaritas, unfortunately. But these bevvies we speak of are said to give you a glow, and they’re blowing up in the beauty industry.

“Skin-boosting drinks are a popular trend right now because they provide the body with nutrients and antioxidants that support healthy skin cell function,” explains Joshua Zeichner, M.D., director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

However, to be clear, while most derms agree that ingredients like spinach, carrots, and papaya (which are found in a lot of these drinks) are good for the skin, there still isn’t much scientific data to support the same results with the juices and powdered supplements.

Most experts also agree that the body is likely to break down the good-for-you ingredients and use them for energy before they actually make it to your complexion. “We don’t have great data that they do help, but there’s no real downside to using them,” says Zeichner.

Still want to sip up? Here are a few of the most delicious:

Perricone MD Super Berry Powder with Acai ($75, perriconemd.com)
Acai is always a good thing. This supplement is said to give your skin an antioxidant boost that helps protect against free radical damage and wrinkles.

8G Greens Superfood Supplement ($13, nordstrom.com)
An easy way to get your daily greens since it boasts ingredients like kale and spinach, this super food supplement also has as much vitamin C as five oranges and as much vitamin B5 as 20 cups of broccoli. The vitamin C helps promote the growth of collagen, which contributes to youthful-looking skin (and decreases as we age). The antioxidants can also help keep skin looking healthy and bright.
