Cop injured while pursuing shoplifters

A cop injured his leg as he attempted to stop a group of shoplifters at a Manhattan store Thursday night, police said.

The officer was trying to catch up with the thieves who were going down an escalator at a T.J. Maxx on the Avenue of the Americas at 8:20 p.m. near West 18th Street in Flatiron when he slipped and hurt his leg.

Police could not comment on the severity of the injury.

The officer was transported to Bellevue Hospital, and the thieves are still at large.
