Ben Bernanke was randomly an extra on ‘Big Bang Theory’

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is apparently a big fan of “The Big Bang Theory.”

The economist and his wife, Anna, appeared in the background of a restaurant scene in Thursday night’s episode — a cameo that was flagged on Twitter by his Brookings Institution colleague David Wessel.

(Though it was the magician teller of Penn & Teller who first teased the appearance, tweeting a selfie with the Bernankes from a taping on Feb. 4).

In the scene, Bernanke doesn’t have any lines, but sits in a booth behind the “Big Bang Theory” gang of Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar).

The CBS sitcom has a history of featuring nerdy guest stars, including Bill Nye, George Takei and Stephen Hawking.
