Mom says son’s mental illness may have caused him to attack bus driver

The man who allegedly pummeled an MTA bus driver last month turned himself in to police with his mother, who claimed her son’s mental illness may have led to his furious attack.

Clark Thutmose, 18, walked into the 67th Precinct in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, accompanied by his mother and pastor, police sources said.

The teen’s mother told investigators her son suffers from mental illness and autism, and said his condition may have led to the outburst, according to CBS 2.

Thutmose allegedly pummeled the driver of a B8 bus as he was stopped at Nostrand Avenue and Avenue D on the evening of Jan. 29.

The attacker was seen on the bus surveillance camera wildly throwing punches at the driver over the security partition.

He then jumps off the bus and continues to pound his fist into his hand and menace the driver.

Thutmose’s mom told CBS 2 that her son started experiencing an outburst while on the bus but the driver refused to let them off prior to the attack.

“I announced to the bus driver that my son had some mental illness issues — ‘please let us off the bus,’” Thutmose’s mother said. “He refused to let us off the bus.”

The 62-year-old driver previously told police that the attack was unprovoked.

Thutmose was charged with assault, officials said.
