Is Colin Kaepernick’s new romance a clue for NFL future?

Colin Kaepernick didn’t score much on the field this season, but he’s definitely making up for it off the field.

After months of speculation, the 49ers quarterback and “Girl Code” personality Nessa Diab made their relationship public at a charity event over Valentine’s Day weekend. Linked since July, the pair dodged rumors they were an item considering Diab is the ex-girlfriend of Kaepernick’s former San Francisco teammate Aldon Smith.

Smith, who was cut from the 49ers in August following a string of DUI arrests, allegedly got into an altercation with Kaepernick during training camp last summer. Sources told TMZ at the time “players had to pull them apart” on the field.

The drama didn’t halt Kaepernick’s romance with the New York-based Diab, who also hosts a radio show on Hot 97.

And with the 27-year-old Kaepernick seemingly departing the Bay Area when the NFL calendar flips in March, the five-year pro could find an East Coast home with a few quarterback-needy teams.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles are poised to let quarterback Sam Bradford test the waters in free agency as they have no plans to franchise-tag him. Elsewhere, with Robert Griffin III’s days in DC coming to a close, the Redskins may be in the market for a capable backup for Kirk Cousins.
