A Connecticut man viciously attacked his wife and three children on Tuesday morning — before he was fatally shot by police when he refused to stop advancing on them, police sources said.
Christopher Andrews, 51, a lawyer with an office at 420 Lexington Ave. in Manhattan, first struck his wife, Kathleen, in their home at 22 Mount Laurel Road in Fairfield, inflicting severe stab and blunt force wounds in the face, police sources said.
He then struck his 12-year-old son in the face, attacked his 13-year-old daughter and tried to hit his 15-year-old son with a baseball bat, the sources said.
The girl fled to a neighbor and called 911, while the 15-year-old also escaped after he managed to wrest the bat from the deranged dad.
When police arrived at about 6 a.m., Andrews refused to obey commands to stop walking toward them and was shot dead by one of the cops. He was armed with a knife, sources said, when he approached the cop.
“Two officers were dispatched to the home and one arrived first. The man advanced on our officer and refused repeated orders to stop,” Fairfield police spokesman Lt. James Perez told The Post. “That individual lunged at our officer, and our officer in self-defense fired at him.”
Kathleen was listed in critical condition at Bridgeport Hospital. The younger son was flown to Yale-New Haven Hospital with critical injuries. The two other children were taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
The officer involved in the shooting was also taken to a hospital as a precaution.
The family was renting the home from its owners, Harun and Jacinta Keskinkaya.
Harun Keskinkaya is the CEO of DJH Leather Corp. of New York City and owner of Delfino Imports.
A woman identifying herself as the Keskinkayas’ daughter told the Connecticut Post that the family involved in Tuesday’s incident was renting the home.
The family has not had a history of domestic violence in the town, Perez said.
The State Attorney’s Office has asked detectives from Western District Major Crime to assist Fairfield police with the investigation.
Fairfield schools Superintendent David Title said counseling was offered for students and staff members in the schools attended by the Andrews children.
