Cop fatally shoots pit bull in the Bronx

A cop shot and killed a charging pit bull inside a Bronx apartment building early Saturday, police said.

Two officers were at an apartment building on East 184th Street near the Grand Concourse in Fordham Heights at around 5:12 a.m. responding to a woman’s complaint that her husband had violated an order of protection and was inside the residence, cops said.

The woman told cops that she believed her husband had gone up to the roof. As the officers made their way upstairs, someone on the fifth floor opened a door and the dog came running out, police said.

The dog, a pit bull, charged at the officers. One of the officers killed him with a single round, cops said.

Both cops were taken to Montefiore Westchester Square hospital for evaluation, police said.
