Man stabbed to death while caring for sick dog in Brooklyn

Update: Police sources later said that the man killed himself after giving his dog antifreeze.

A man was fatally stabbed while taking care of his sick dog in Brooklyn early Wednesday morning, police sources said.

The 26-year-old victim was found by police with his throat and wrists slashed near the corner of Rockaway Avenue and Pacific Street around 1:45 a.m.

When rescuers tried to load the man into an ambulance, his German shepherd tried to jump into the vehicle with his dying master.

Police believe the victim had been driving in the car with his dog when the canine got sick. He pulled over and was attacked soon after he got out of the car, police said.

A long trail of blood was found leading to the body, causing investigators to believe the incident may have unfolded a block away from where victim eventually collapsed.

Police said the man suffered deep wounds to his throat and wrists. A loose razor blade was found in the man’s possession, but investigators believe he may have tried to used it to defend himself.

Cops also found dog hair and vomit inside his car, police said.
