It’s gonna get really cold in NYC

A five-day cold snap is set to bring the coldest weather of the season to the Big Apple with dangerous wind chills and single-digit temperatures expected over the weekend.

Thursday will start out at a frigid 16 degrees, only getting up to 30 by the afternoon with the possibility for some snow showers.

That cold air will stick around Friday, when temperatures will again struggle to top 30 degrees.

Saturday will be the first time this season temperatures will drop into the single digits — getting as low as 3 degrees at night, with wind chills that will make it feel like minus-25 degrees.

The bitter cold will be accompanied by some sun on Sunday, but that won’t make it much warmer. The high for the day will be a bone-chilling 19 degrees, making it the coldest day of the year.

“Sunday starts off cold and ends cold,” senior Accuweather meteorologist Tom Kines said.

But while the weekend will be brutal, Kines said New Yorkers just need to hold on a little while longer.

“People are going to be complaining about the cold, but if we can make it through this weekend, there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” Kines said. “There could be a taste of spring coming up.”

By early next week, temperatures will return to normal at about 40 degrees with some 50-degree-plus days expected next weekend.
