Famed photographer Cindy Sherman gives narcissistic street-style stars a taste of their own medicine in the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar, which hits newsstands Feb. 16. Threads has the exclusive preview (online) of the nine-page portfolio of original portraits, in which Sherman poses as selfie-obsessed fashionistas. To get into character, the photographer followed a few choice Instagram stars recommended by Bazaar.

“I was physically repulsed after looking at some of these accounts — thinking how this person travels with hair and makeup and a photographer and is just going to visit her sister in LA?” Sherman tells the magazine. “They’re not even selfies; they’re setups. Then some of them get paid to wear the clothes? I guess it makes sense — it’s business — but there’s just something dead about the whole thing. It’s so self-involved.”

And now, thanks to Sherman, it’s art.
