Tom Brady’s gym clock already counting down to Super Bowl 51

Tom Brady won’t be joining Derek Jeter on his retirement tour anytime soon.

Speaking with CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran on Thursday, the father of the Patriots’ quarterback, Tom Brady Sr., reveals that his son is already preparing for Super Bowl 51 and has the countdown clock perched in his home to prove it.

“Tommy is a football player. This is not a July-January or February endeavor for him,” Brady’s proud papa said via WEEI. “He loves two-a-days that started for him a week ago that will be two-a-days from January 20 to the next February. He has a countdown clock in his gym that is now ticking to next year’s Super Bowl.”

Following a season of several ups and downs, including the never-ending Deflategate saga, Brady’s father admits that he took the scandal more personally than his son.

“It’s often times harder for parents when your kid is being attacked that you become more defensive,” he said. “I know that things maybe have happened to me in my life that I felt that I’ve been wronged, but I can let that go, but when somebody in any way hurts your child, you take it way more personally than even if you have yourself.”

After appealing a four-game suspension from the league, Brady led the Patriots to a 12-4 record and a fifth straight AFC Championship appearance. Brady nearly booked a return trip to the Super Bowl on Jan. 24, but an intercepted pass by Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby sealed Denver’s 20-18 victory. But Brady’s dad says his son is “on to Super Bowl 51,” despite his rant to Jeter at Michigan’s Signing Day on Wednesday.

“The season just ended. It ended a few weeks early,” Brady told the former Yankees captain, who replied by bragging about the comforts of retirement.

“We blew it. We had a good chance,” he pouted.
