Meet Australia’s first Carl’s Jr. burger girl

A 25-year-old “grid girl” from Cronulla has joined a select group of women — which includes Paris Hilton, Kate Upton and Ronda Rousey — to become the newest bikini-clad star of a Carl’s Jr burger commercial.

The controversial American burger chain opened its first Australian store on the NSW Central Coast today.

The restaurant is famous for its hyper-sexualised ads starring blonde, busty women eating burgers, usually while wearing bikinis.

Australian actor Gemie Howe stars in the first Australian TV ad for Carl’s Jr and the commercial has already been referred to the Advertising Standards Board by angry consumers.

“To look this hot in a bikini, I have to give up almost everything,” Howe says in the ad, as she poses on a beach in a white bikini while eating a Carl’s Jr burger.

“But there’s no way I’m giving up my Carl’s Jr western bacon cheeseburger. I’m totally obsessed,” she adds.

Howe works as a V8 Supercars ‘grid girl’ for sponsors including alcohol brand Woodstock and Pepsi. She’s relatively unknown, with less than 1,000 Instagram followers.

She met the Carl’s Jr Bateau Bay franchisee Lindsey Brennan while working for Woodstock. Mr Brennan owns 18 liquor stores in the Central Coast region.

“Lindsey was going through the early stages of working out his shop when we became good friends,” Howe told news.com.au. “He checked out some of my acting stuff and offered me the role.”

They filmed the ad on a Central Coast beach just before Christmas and the clip was screened on Channel 10 after the cricket Big Bash League during December and January.

“It still feels like a dream,” she said. “It’s come so fast so quickly, I’m still floating on air.” Howe, a graduate from the Actors College of Television and Theatre in Sydney, says she is “blown away” by her recent success.

While Howe doesn’t look like she regularly eats high-calorie foods, she says the Carl’s Jr chicken burger is her favorite item on the menu.

“It tastes like you’ve gone to a restaurant and ordered a gourmet burger and they’ve cooked it for you,” she said.

“I was also really excited to find out that they have the chicken salad option. I’m a big fan of chicken and I eat a lot of salads. Keeping fit and healthy is a priority.”
