David Blatt may not have been good enough for Cleveland or LeBron James’ taste, but at least one Net wouldn’t mind seeing him in Brooklyn. Nets swingman Sergey Karasev — who played for Blatt on the Russian National Team — said his former mentor would be a logical fit for the Nets.
“It should be logical, because he spent seven years coaching the national team in Russia and for sure [Nets owner Mikhail] Prokhorov knows him and I’m sure they communicate,” Karasev told The Post. “I’m sure he calls him and they talk about everything. But I think he’d fit pretty good for this team, especially if like everybody says we try and build a new team and have young pieces over [the summer]. So he’d be a perfect fit over here.’’
Karasev made similar comments on Russian Match TV.
“I think Brooklyn will make every effort to get David,’’ Karasev said, according to a translation from NetsDaily. “I know him and I am on good terms with him. Of course, his appointment would be a plus for me.’’
Russian news agency TASS called Blatt a leading candidate for the Nets job. It should be noted the same outlet correctly predicted Hollins’ firing a month before it happened, and Prokhorov admitted he made the decision a month-and-a-half before pulling the plug Jan. 10.
“He’s a good coach. I know him with the national team, and he’s a really good coach with the young players, development. He’s a good motivator,’’ said Karasev, whom Blatt picked for the 2012 Olympics. “He’s a good guy who you can just talk to and he’s just a good motivator. He’s really good for the young guys.’’
