Jeter, Brady pawns in Jim Harbaugh’s master recruiting plan

Signing Day in Ann Arbor will never be the same again.

Michigan is hosting a unique two-hour event on Wednesday at 11 a.m., entitled “Signing with the Stars,” the details of which were first reported by SI.com.

And, boy, will there be stars. The event will include former Yankees captain Derek Jeter and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. And it doesn’t end there. Pro wrestler Ric Flair, Rangers pitcher Derek Holland, former NFL coach Mike Shanahan, singer Josh Gracin, former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz, rappers Migos and former Michigan players Desmond Howard and Denard Robinson also will be on hand to witness the Wolverines signing their projected top-five recruiting class.

Jeter, who was raised in Kalamazoo, Mich., was offered a baseball scholarship by Michigan, but went straight to the minor leagues after being drafted by the Yankees. He later spent a semester as a student at the school.

Clearly, second-year Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t messing around. He wants this to be a major event, and he has lined up the star power to make it happen.

It will be invite-only, held at Hill Auditorium on the Ann Arbor campus, and streamed live by The Players’ Tribune — which, in a stroke of brand synergy, is owned by Jeter.
