ESPN hires first female editor to head a major sports magazine

ESPN The Magazine made a bit of sports history on Monday by naming the first woman to be the editor of a major sports magazine in the US.

Alison Overholt, the editor of espnW, will add the title of editor-in-chief of the 17-year-old main title, the magazine said.

Overholt replaces Chad Millman, who becomes vice president, editorial director, domestic digital content.

The ESPN cable channels for the first time in history have been losing subscribers to so-called cord-cutters.

The magazine, on the other hand, was recently singled out as the top digital magazine brand in the US, with an average monthly audience of 94.8 million consumers in 2015.

John Kosner, executive vice president of print and digital media, also named Patrick Stiegman VP of global digital content and Ray Spoon senior VP of digital product management to lead a new audience development unit.

All report to Kosner.
