Inspired Alabama fan outdoes self with 18 beers by halftime

It was only halftime, but he was on record-setting pace.

As Alabama thought it had a national championship brewing in a College Football Playoff showdown with Clemson, Larry, an Alabama fan, was intoxicated by the action. And the beer that just kept flowing.

During “Finebaum Film Room,” in which ESPN radio personality Paul Finebaum analyzes games and takes calls from fans, Larry, from Shelby County, Ala., called in Monday night to update the world and Finebaum about his level of drunkenness. It was impressive.

Larry said he had downed 18 beers — “That ain’t nothing, Paul! This is ‘Bama’s national championship!” he crowed — by halftime of the game.

At that rate, he would shatter his total from New Year’s Eve, when he called in to Finebaum to alert him about his paltry-in-hindsight 20 beers as Alabama was destroying Michigan State, 38-0.

Hurl tide.
