Inside the madness of The Golden Globes

This was Sarah Hay’s first time attending the Golden Globes, but she didn’t break a sweat. The 28-year-old professional ballerina, who was nominated for best actress in a limited series for her role in the Starz series “Flesh and Bone,” not only looked gorgeous in her floaty embroidered dress, she also got to sit with (new BFF) Jamie Lee Curtis. We caught up with Hay by phone after she got a few hours of sleep following all the post-show parties.

What was it like walking the red carpet?

It was very strange, like an explosion of energy. Because I’m a newcomer, there was a lot of confusion and being shuffled all over the place. David Hasselhoff was behind me!

How long did it take you to get ready?

I woke up really early because I was too excited! But I started getting ready at 11:30 a.m. and finished at 1:30 p.m. My makeup artist moves really quickly, though getting a form-fitting dress over hair and makeup is no easy feat!

With whom did you sit?

My table was Jamie Lee Curtis, Eva Longoria and Patrick Stewart. Jamie Lee Curtis brought a bunch of little tiny golden balls in her purse, and when we lost she gave them to us and said we deserved them and we shouldn’t go home empty-handed. It was so epic meeting her. And she brought her daughter, who is a dance teacher, so we had a little ballet schmooze.

Oh and then this happened!!!! #jamieleecurtis #goldenglobes2016 #inloveagain

What was the ambiance like?

A lot of people were really drunk, which I did not expect! With some of Ricky Gervais’ more risque jokes, there were some tense moments, but people were mostly socializing the whole time, and the room just got louder and louder.

Was there anyone you were excited to see?

Aziz Ansari — everyone was asking for selfies with him! I think comedic actors get more attention because they seem like they would be more open. No one goes near Cate Blanchett! Kate Winslet was really sweet. We were in line for the bathroom, and she asked to cut some people because she had to present, and she was so polite.

What was the most surprising thing that happened?

My friends were watching [the ceremony] in Germany — they thought it was so funny when Leo looked at Lady Gaga with that face of disgust. Though I loved his speech about the Native Americans — it reminded me of Marlon Brando when he sent the Native American woman to speak for him. I think it’s more meaningful than just someone coming up and crying.
