Weird But True

Fugitive sent selfie to police because he didn’t like his mugshot

A vain Ohio fugitive couldn’t handle it when cops sent out his unflattering mugshots — so he sent them a “better photo” for them to use instead.

When Chip Pugh, 45, skipped his court appearance for a drunk driving charge, the Lima Police Department posted two mugshots of him — asking the public to help them track him down, according to The Lima News.

“Mr. Pugh is also currently a person of interest in several other cases including an arson and vandalism,” the police department wrote in a Jan. 6 Facebook post.

Apparently offended by the bad snaps, Pugh sent cops a suave selfie of himself sitting in a car.

“Here is a better photo that one is horrible,” he wrote above a picture of him wearing gold-rimmed aviators and a plaid suit jacket.

Since then, Pugh’s plight has gone viral — and he has vowed to continue eluding authorities.

“When I was a little kid, my grandmother told me a bedtime story,” he said in a radio interview on 104.9 FM. “My hero was this character who used to say, ‘Run, run, fast as you can. You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man.’”

He knows that he’s got a lot of fans rooting for him — including his own “Free Chip Pugh” page on Facebook with at least 355 followers.

“It went viral in a way,” Pugh said during his radio interview. “I started having fun with it. I became a hometown hero. I can’t help but run with it.”
