Teacher gives half-hearted apology for seducing teen students

A disgraced teacher from one of the city’s top public high schools gave a half-hearted apology in Brooklyn Supreme Court Wednesday before he was sentenced to five years in prison for seducing seven teenaged students.

“This has been the most difficult time in a lot of people’s lives,” former Brooklyn Tech HS teacher Sean Shaynak said.

Shaynak, 45, took a plea deal in December while admitted to charges of kidnapping, child endangerment, disseminating indecent material to a minor and resisting arrest.

No victims were present for the sentencing, but it was revealed in court that Shaynak refused to sign an order of protection for one victim.

Even without the signature he has to stay away from her as well, the judge told him.

Shaynak will have to register as a sex offender and will never be allowed to teach again, Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson said.
