Obama trades barbs with Seinfeld on web series

WASHINGTON — President Obama got the full Jerry Seinfeld treatment when the funny man queried the commander in chief about his underwear drawer and the White House thermostat for a taping of the web series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”

“I always wanted to be in a show about nothing and here I am,” quipped Obama in one of several dings at Jerry.

Seinfeld rolled onto the White House grounds for the show behind the wheel of a classic 1963 blue Corvette Stingray. The admittedly nervous host accidentally ran over portions of the White House lawn on some tight turns while chauffeuring the president.

“Do you ever think every person you talk to is putting on an act — a total show?” Seinfeld wondered.

“It’s a problem,” replied Obama.

“Can you adjust the temperature at all?” in the White House, Seinfeld wanted to know.

“No, I make a call,” Obama replied dryly.

“What’s your most embarrassing president moment?” the comedian inquired.

“This may be it,” Obama deadpanned.

Obama touted his own ride, an armored limo known as “the beast.”

“See, I could call a nuclear submarine right here,” Obama bragged. “It’s a cool feature. Plus, seat warmers.”

Seinfeld was unimpressed: “That’s pretty standard everywhere,” he said.

Seinfeld kicked off the show by wandering up to the Oval Office and tapping on the window while Obama tried to get some work done.

Making himself as at home as Kramer on Jerry’s couch during an episode of “Seinfeld,” Jerry started munching on one of the glistening apples always on display in a fruit bowl.

“Are these washed?” Seinfeld wanted to know.

“Don’t leave the apple though,” Obama admonished his guest when it was time to walk outside. “If you’re going to have a bite of the apple, you gotta take it.”

Then he steered Seinfeld to use the “non-presidential garbage.”

In addition to driving in loops on the White House lawn and touring the grounds, the two shared a coffee in the White House mess.

Obama didn’t give too much detail when Seinfeld tried to get him to spill secrets about his underwear drawer.

“You gotta go with one brand,” Obama said, and all the same color.

At the end of a mostly pointless chitchat, Obama put in a plug for ObamaCare – as he did during a droll interview with comedian Zach Galifianakis on “Between Two Ferns” in 2014.
