Donald Sterling drops lawsuit against V. Stiviano over racist recordings

Disgraced ex-Los Angeles Clippers NBA owner Donald Sterling has dropped his invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against V. Stiviano, the woman who recorded his racist rants.

At the 81-year-old billionaire’s request, an LA judge closed the case late Wednesday. It was not immediately clear why Sterling wanted it done.

In the lawsuit, filed in August, Sterling accused Stiviano and celebrity Web site TMZ of violating his privacy. TMZ had already been dropped from the case.

In the recordings, Sterling told Stiviano not to bring “black people” to his games and specifically singled out retired NBA superstar and businessman Magic Johnson.

“Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me,” Sterling said. “And don’t bring him to my games.”

Stiviano has said Sterling consented to her recording him, but he denied that.

Sterling also sued his wife, the NBA and two doctors who examined him and declared he was unable to conduct his own business affairs.

Sterling claimed that they conspired to remove him from control of the Clippers. That case is ongoing.
