These nasty hits have the NFL talking Bountygate again

Gregg Williams’ reputation preceded him Sunday.

Mike Zimmer and the Vikings all but alleged the Rams defensive coordinator — who was implicated as a mastermind of Bountygate when he held the same job with the Saints — had a bounty out on quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, knocked out in the fourth quarter on a hit by Lamarcus Joyner.

“I know that there is a history there [with] their defensive coordinator,” Zimmer said.

Joyner and Rams head coach Jeff Fisher denied the accusations of dirty play. The Vikings were also infuriated by defensive end William Hayes going at Bridgewater’s knees following a pass, though no flag was thrown.

More notes from Week 9:

• Apparently there is an I in T-E-A-M.

Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins limited Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs to three catches for 42 yards, and afterwards tweeted:

Numbers don’t lie: Vikings 21, Rams 18.

Bucs cornerback Sterling Moore tweeted a photo of his interception off an Eli Manning pass thrown behind Odell Beckham Jr.:

Allow me to reintroduce the final score: Giants 32, Bucs 18.

• New Colts offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski had the Dan Campbell effect on Andrew Luck and the Colts.

Mike Mularkey had the Dan Campbell effect on Marcus Mariota and the Titans. And where are the people who swore that Mariota was a system quarterback?

• Rex Ryan’s Bills are a much more dangerous team when Sammy Watkins reminds us why he was drafted ahead of Beckham.

49ers quarterback Blaine GabbertAP

• The young Peyton Manning would have overcome his Broncos defense’s uncharacteristic meltdown against Luck. This one can’t.

Speaking of … Gary Kubiak needs to remind Aqib Talib that poking an opponent in the eye isn’t allowed, and the league needs to remind him as well.

• What does it say about Colin Kaepernick when his 49ers team rallies around Blaine Gabbert?

• Instructions for the Steelers’ Landry Jones when he fills in next Sunday for Big Ben: Throw the ball to Antonio Brown.

• If Sean Payton leaves the Saints as a free agent after the season, he won’t be bringing Rob Ryan with him.

• Adrian Peterson wasn’t about to be starstruck by Todd Gurley.

• If for some reason Brady isn’t the MVP, Cam Newton should be after outdueling Aaron Rodgers.

• RIP Dallas Cowboys.
