Man who survived suicide try is ashamed of $5M Ponzi scheme

The corporate lawyer who incriminated himself for a $5 million Ponzi scheme in a suicide note — and then survived his plunge into the Hudson River — pleaded guilty to two fraud counts Wednesday.

Charles A. Bennett, 57, admitted fleecing the money from more than 30 investors between 2008 and 2014.

“I am deeply, deeply ashamed of my conduct,” Bennett said in Manhattan federal court.

“The purpose of my fraud was to obtain money from my friends and family. I misrepresented to them that their money would be put in an investment fund. This was a lie.”

Bennett left behind a 16-page suicide note titled “A Sad Ending to My Life” when he tried to kill himself last year.

He was fished out of the river after he jumped into the Hudson from a pier.
