Ex-Carnegie Deli manager gets divorced before illegal gas trial

Ousted Carnegie Deli manager Sanford Levine settled three lawsuits over his role in the business two days before he was supposed to take the stand to prove he wasn’t responsible for an illegal gas hookup at the famed eatery.

Sanford “unexpectedly” showed up in Manhattan divorce court Tuesday, according to Judge Matthew Cooper, who had ordered him to testify after his ex-wife, Marian Levine, accused him of siphoning gas from Con Ed.

The confidential settlement resolves the divorce case plus two lawsuits Marian had filed against Sanford — accusing him of cheating on her with a Carnegie waitress and of stealing deli recipes.

Sanford shuffled out of court with his shoulders hunched, and declined to comment.

A spokeswoman for Marian issued a statement that said, “After 25 years of marriage, we have decided to resolve our differences and are now officially divorced.”

Cooper dressed down Sanford in court last month, dubbing him the “Shyster of Smoked Meat” for stiffing employees and asking the judge to jail his ex when she stopped paying him alimony.
