Neil Young has been searching for a heart of gold, but now he’d like to find somebody with a bank full of it, too.
Earlier this month, the Canadian singer-songwriter put his massive estate on the Big Island of Hawaii on the market for an incredible $24.5 million.
Young’s two acres of lush land aren’t down by the river but rather wedged between two scenic curves of Wai’alea Bay, off the isle’s northwestern coast. Nine bedrooms and 7½ bathrooms are divided between one main mansion and two guest cottages. Two greenhouses, a terraced vegetable garden and a pool house complete the peninsular getaway.
It’s “one of the finest oceanfront properties on the entire island,” according to the listing. The 1920s property has 830 feet of ocean frontage — with ample verandas offering prime views — as well the opportunity to snorkel in your own backyard. The tropical-style decor has plenty of flora to match, and it’s edible to boot. The spread comes with multiple kinds of coconut trees, plus there are specimens bearing lemons, papayas, pomelos and mangos.
Young, 69, has waxed poetic about the area, saying that the island has “magical healing” powers and that life there is “soothing” in his 2012 book, “Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream.“
The Grammy winner can keep on rockin’ in the free world of the mainland U.S. of A., since he also owns California’s 140-acre Broken Arrow Ranch. But of course, his prime Hawaiian real estate isn’t anywhere close to free.
Let’s just hope something like a hurricane never hits this expensive oasis.
