City to spend $300M fixing public housing rooftops

The city will spend $300 million to replace public housing rooftops over the next three years, with $87 million alone allocated for the Queensbridge Houses, the largest public-housing development in the country.

Mayor de Blasio announced Monday that the city would fix roofs at 66 buildings, including the Parkside Houses in The Bronx and the Albany and Sheepshead Bay developments in Brooklyn.

The repairs at Queensbridge, which covers 26 buildings near the Queensboro Bridge, will be funded with $60 million from the city and $27 million from the federal government.

The state has pledged $100 million for NYCHA repairs, but hasn’t produced an actual spending plan.

“We’d very much like to get that plan,” the mayor said.
