A heat wave is going to melt the city this week

This perky pachyderm from the Cole Bros. Circus enjoyed a nice, cool shower on Long Island Monday, thanks to the Oceanside Fire Department — and we’re all going to need a good hosing off this week, thanks to a five-day, five-alarm heatwave.

The bad news starts Tuesday, with a predicted peak of 93 degrees with high humidity.

And Wednesday’s temps will soar as high as an elephant’s eye: It’ll hit 96 degrees, with still more humidity.

The heatwave will wane a little on Thursday, although it will still be nothing to trumpet about, with a high of 95.

Temperatures are expected to linger in the mid- to low 90s on Friday and Saturday.

By Sunday, the predicted high may finally dip below 90, but not by much: It’s predicted to be about 89.

The Cole Bros. Circus is touring Long Island from Tuesday to Saturday, with performances in Oceanside, Center Moriches and Farmingville.
