Pharrell sued by ‘friend’ for bailing on talk show

A New York online video company is so unhappy with Pharrell Williams for backing out of their talk-show deal that it’s suing.

Kevin Law’s Uncommon Content has hit the “Happy” singer with a $1 million suit, claiming Williams violated their contract when he backed out of the second season of Web series “Artst Tlk.” A Manhattan federal judge is set to hear oral arguments on Thursday.

Williams was close friends with Law until his contract with NBC’s “The Voice” restricted him from fulfilling his obligation, the suit claims.

Uncommon Content, which makes shows for the Web and tries to get them picked up by networks, said it was “engaged in serious negotiations … with a cable TV network and corporate sponsorship” for the Williams series, the company said in court papers.

Williams lost an earlier suit brought by the estate of Marvin Gaye, which claimed the songwriter’s “Blurred Lines” too closely resembled a work of Gaye’s. He and co-writer Robin Thicke were ordered to pay $7.3 million.
