Jets replace injured tight end with tight end from Patriots

The Jets swapped out 6-foot-7 backup tight ends on Monday.

The team waived/injured Zach Sudfeld, who tore an ACL during last week’s minicamp when safety Calvin Pryor hit him during a non-contact drill. To fill his roster spot, the team signed Steve Maneri, who has played for six different teams over six seasons.

Sudfeld, whom the team picked up in 2013 from the Patriots, never had a big role on offense, but he became a key special teams player last season. He led the team with 20 special teams tackles.

Sudfeld could be placed on season-ending injured reserve if he clears waivers.

Maneri played one game for the Patriots last season. He has six catches for 52 yards in his career. He is from Saddle Brook, N.J.
