Pataki pauses presidential campaign after relative’s stroke

Former Gov. George put his presidential campaign on hold after his son-in-law suffered a life-threatening stroke during a flight, aides revealed Thursday.

Pataki had announced on Tuesday that he was leaving the campaign trail for a “family emergency.”

In a statement issued Thursday, the campaign said his daughter Allison Pataki and her husband, David Levy, a doctor, were on a flight that had left Chicago for Seattle for a scheduled vacation when Levy suffered the stroke.

Their plane was diverted to Fargo, ND, where Levy was in intensive care before being transported home to Chicago, where he will remain in intensive care at Rush University Medical Center.

“This episode is a shock to us all, as David, only 30 years of age, is a strong young man who enjoyed excellent health,” the statement said. “We are praying for his recovery and welcome everyone’s prayers and good wishes.”
