Cop writing ticket struck after driver flees at LaGuardia Airport: police

An officer writing a traffic ticket at LaGuardia Airport was struck as the driver fled with a child in the back seat without a car seat, Port Authority Police said.

The driver, Erick Sanchez, 24, was parked outside Terminal B in a no-standing zone when the officer walked up to his 2014 Dodge Caravan and began to write him up around 12:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Sanchez suddenly flipped into drive, turned his wheels toward the officer and took off, striking him in the left leg, cops said.

After a short pursuit, officers caught up with the reckless driver and discovered a 6-year-old boy in the back seat without a car seat, cops said.

Sanchez had an open warrant in the Bronx for reckless driving, cops said.

He was charged with assault and obstructing governmental administration.

The officer was treated at Forest Hills Hospital.
