ABC barely squeaks ahead of NBC in nightly news ratings

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” has leapt ahead of the “NBC Nightly News” in the key adults 25-54 news demo by a thismuch margin of 1,000 viewers.

It’s the first time in 19 years — since the late Peter Jennings was anchoring “World News” — that the ABC newscast is No. 1 in adults 25-54 this late in the TV season.

For the season, “World News” is averaging 2.113 million viewers in the demo, compared to 2.112 million for “Nightly News,” anchored by Lester Holt since Brian Williams was suspended in February.

For the week of June 1, “World News” also beat “Nightly News” in total viewers (7.945 million vs. 7.751 million).
