First Lady Chirlane McCray received approval from the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board to attend a conference in Italy with NYU picking up the $6,500 tab for her and an aide, officials said Wednesday.
McCray received a verbal opinion from the ethics panel before heading out of New York Wednesday to deliver opening remarks at a four-day NYU-sponsored conference in Florence titled “Black Portraitures II:Imaging the Black Body and Re-staging Histories.” mayoral aides said.
NYU received city approval in 2012 for a $6 billion expansion in Greenwich Village. An ongoing court challenge could potentially lead to the university having to go back to the city with a revised plan.
The $6,500 being shelled out by NYU will also cover travel costs of a staffer accompanying McCray to the event, the aides said.
