Dilson Herrera placed on DL after breaking middle finger

The hits just keep on coming for the Mets — at least when it comes to injuries.

Now it’s Dilson Herrera who has landed on the disabled list after fracturing the tip of the middle finger on his right hand taking a throw during drills before Friday night’s 7-0 loss to the Brewers at Citi Field.

Ruben Tejada filled in for Herrera on Friday, as the Mets lost their fifth straight. Eric Campbell was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas.

“We shook our heads,” manager Terry Collins said of when he learned of Herrera’s injury. “When they came and told us the finger was broken, I just said, ‘Of course it is.’ The way things have gone for us, we certainly couldn’t have had just a fingernail issue, we’ve got to break his finger.”

Collins said in Herrera’s absence, Campbell would go to third and Daniel Murphy would head back to second base, which Murphy insisted wouldn’t be a problem. Wilmer Flores will remain at shortstop.

The 21-year-old Herrera is 8-for-34 (.235) in 10 games with the Mets this season.

Bobby Parnell will make at least one more appearance for Single-A St. Lucie before he’s considered for a promotion to Las Vegas because of concerns about his velocity, according to general manager Sandy Alderson.

Parnell, rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, mostly has been throwing his fastball in the 90-92 mph range, according to reports. He previously threw consistently in the 96-98 mph range.

“He’s coming back from a serious injury and I think frankly one of the reasons he hasn’t progressed or we haven’t moved him further is that lack of velocity,” Alderson said.

Parnell will make a third appearance for St. Lucie on Saturday or Sunday and then may jump to Las Vegas, where Alderson is hopeful the reliever will pick up his velocity pitching against better competition. But Alderson also wants to be cautious with the expectations.

“For us to expect a change in venue is going to result in an increase of four or five miles an hour I think is a little aggressive,” Alderson said. “He’s only 13 months out, so we have to temper our expectations.”

David Wright is completing an exercise progression on his lower back, according to Alderson. He may resume baseball activities on Monday in Port St. Lucie, but isn’t close to rejoining the Mets.

Travis d’Arnaud will be examined Monday to determine if he’s ready to resume hitting. The catcher, recovering from a broken right pinkie, began non-hitting baseball activities last week.

Dillon Gee (groin) has been throwing in Port St. Lucie, but likely will need a rehab start before returning from the disabled list. Alderson indicated it’s unlikely Gee would be ready for a return on Tuesday, when he is eligible to be removed from the DL.

Keith Hernandez’s trademark mustache is returning. The Mets broadcaster is in the early stages of growing back his mustache — spurred on by an endorsement opportunity — after shaving it off two years ago.
