BERLIN — German security officials say they have foiled what they believe was an imminent Boston Marathon-style attack after raiding the home of a suspected Islamic extremist.
The chief of police for western Hesse state says authorities found a pipe bomb, 100 rounds of ammunition, parts of an assault rifle and a chemical that can be used to build a bomb during a raid overnight in the town of Oberursel.

Mueller told reporters at a news conference Thursday that a 35-year-old Turkish-German man and his 34-year-old Turkish wife were arrested.
He says the man was linked to the extreme Islamic Salafist movement in the Frankfurt area.
Mueller said that “according to our current information we have prevented an attack.”
