Banned Russian motorcycle club unfurls Soviet flag at Auschwitz memorial

WARSAW, Poland — A Polish biker says at least one member of a nationalistic Russian motorcycle club appears to have entered Poland despite a ban, and was riding with two other Russians — one of whom briefly unfurled a Soviet flag in the Auschwitz memorial’s parking lot.

The pro-Kremlin Night Wolves, who are on a World War II remembrance ride, were denied entry to Poland on Monday amid tension between Warsaw and Moscow over Russia’s role in the Ukraine conflict.

Polish biker Miroslaw Wenglorz says one of the three Russian bikers who visited the Auschwitz memorial Wednesday claimed he belonged to the Night Wolves, but wasn’t wearing any of the group’s emblems. In Moscow, the club says some members entered Poland. Wenglorz was riding with the three Russians.
