3 NFL draft objectives for Jets

1. Need for speed

The Jets added some nice pieces on offense this offseason by trading for wide receiver Brandon Marshall and signing running back Stevan Ridley, but they don’t have any game-breakers. Mike Maccagnan needs to find some speed for his offense.

2. Address the line

It is time the Jets start rebuilding their offensive line. Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson are getting older and they have no givens at either guard spot or right tackle. The Jets liked Maccagnan’s history with Houston as a strong evaluator of offensive linemen. He needs to show it here.

3. Restock at linebacker

David Harris re-signed in March, but he is 31 and probably only has a few years left. Demario Davis is a free agent after this season. The Jets added veterans behind them through free agency, but it is time to start developing a player at this position.

Brian Costello was one of the few — if not only — to predict the Jets’ taking Calvin Pryor at No. 18 last year. Here’s his prediction this time:

Costello’s call

Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

The Jets could use a quarterback, but both Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will be gone before the Jets pick. That leaves Maccagnan to decide whether to trade back or take the best player on the board. I think he will opt to stay at No. 6 and take White, who has drawn comparisons to Larry Fitzgerald.
