Montauk’s hottest property back on the market

The hottest property in Montauk is back on the market for $25 million — East Deck Motel and Resort in Montauk’s Ditch Plains, which was sold in 2013 for $14 million.

The reason: The owners plan to turn it into a swank, members-only surf club did not go over well with the locals.

The compound has 30 hotel units and an Olympic-size pool on five oceanfront acres.

East end sources said the seller is Vitaminwater billionaire Mike Repole, but he has repeatedly denied he bought the property as part of a group of investors, and the owners’ names have remained secret.

It’s understood the investors spent several million preparing to turn the East Deck into a private club, including shoring up the sand near the popular surfers’ beach where models and a fashion crowd mix with locals.

Big-name potential buyers in the hotel world including Ian Schrager and Sean MacPherson are rumored to have already quietly dipped their toes into the water and looked the property over.

It’s 30 hotel rooms that a summertime Montauk, which has Gurney’s Resort and Panoramic, really needs.

The broker, Ed Bruehl at Sotheby’s, would not comment on the seller’s name, nor on potential buyers.

“It is a shame to see such an iconic property boarded up and closed. We look forward to the day when this property is back open,” he said.

The exclusive listing is with Sotheby’s International Realty in East Hampton.

The representing agents are Rylan Jacka and Bruehl.
