Jets will retain running back Bilal Powell

The Jets are bringing back running back Bilal Powell on a one-year deal, according to a source.

Powell, 26, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Jets in 2011. He saw his playing time decrease dramatically last season with the arrival of Chris Johnson. Powell primarily was a third-down back. He had 33 rushes for 141 yards and one touchdown, and caught 11 passes for 92 yards. In 2013, he had a career-high 697 yards as a complementary back to Chris Ivory.

The new regime of general manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles must have liked what they saw, though, because re-signing Powell was a high priority.
