‘60 Minutes’ honors Bob Simon by airing final piece

“60 Minutes” paid tribute to Bob Simon on Sunday night by airing his final piece — a look into the treatment of Ebola using the experimental drug ZMapp.

CBS News anchor Scott Pelley introduced the segment with a mention of the veteran reporter’s death.

“We begin tonight with a story by Bob Simon, our colleague and friend whom we lost this past Wednesday in a tragic car accident. In a 47-year career, reporting from every corner of the globe, Bob set the standard for CBS News,” Pelley told viewers.

In closing the program, Steve Kroft went on to explain that “60 Minutes” lost more than just a reporter when it lost Simon.

“We lost his curiosity, his unparalleled writing ability, his calm bravery under fire,” Kroft said.

“60 Minutes” plans to do a full tribute to Simon this coming Sunday.

A private funeral service is scheduled to be held Tuesday morning at the Metropolitan Opera House.
