Primary Wave helping Hollywood stars make jump from acting to singing

The next act for TV’s newest “it” girl, Gina Rodriguez, could be a rap album.

Primary Wave boss Larry Mestel is looking to smooth the path from acting to singing and vice versa for the “Jane the Virgin” star and other multitalented artists.

The New York City-based music publishing, talent management and marketing company, which counts CeeLo Green as chief creative officer, is building a major West Coast presence in the film and TV businesses.

In the latest deal, Primary Wave is merging its talent-management division with LA-based Intellectual Artists Management, which boasts Golden Globe winner Rodriguez and “Glee” actress Jane Lynch among its clients.

“It’s a natural expansion because recorded-music stars also want to be in film and TV. Rather than going outside, we’re doing it ourselves and wanted to team up with film and TV managers,” Mestel told The Post.

Hollywood stars also want to make the jump to music, including Rodriguez who raps and writes her own music and was working on an album before she landed her TV role.

Mestel will become co-CEO of the venture, called Primary Wave Entertainment, alongside Intellectual Artists Management founder David Guillod.

“The merger of Larry’s team and my team will perfectly position us to become a global entertainment, media, branding and licensing powerhouse,” Guillod said in a statement.

After the deal, Primary Wave Entertainment will house around 75 staff and have offices on both coasts.

The expansion comes just a few months after Primary Wave acquired another LA-based talent shop, Evolution Entertainment.

The November deal with Mark Burg’s Evolution brought in talent such as Mayim Bialik, who stars on CBS hit “The Big Bang Theory.” Burg, who also helped produce the “Saw” horror franchise and is an executive producer on “Two and a Half Men,” will become vice chairman of Primary Wave.

Primary Wave is best known as one of the largest independent music publishers, with a song catalog of hits by the Beatles and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

Bertelsmann’s BMG Rights took control of the bulk of those publishing assets through a $150 million deal in 2013, although Primary Wave held on to about 5,000 copyrights outside of that venture and continues to acquire music publishing rights.

Mestel will be rubbing shoulders with celebs and film honchos this week at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, as one of the executive producers of “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.”

Talent managers differ from agents in that they look after stars’ entire roster of business interests and are expected to help craft long-range career plans.

Primary Wave Entertainment works with a host of brands — W Hollywood, Monster Energy and Celebrity Cruises among others — in attempting to marry their interests with stars.
