The first 11 facts to know about new Jets coach Todd Bowles

1. Born Nov. 18, 1963, in Elizabeth, NJ.

2. Is married with a daughter and three sons ranging in age from 4 to 11.

3. Played college football at Temple University, but went undrafted. Played eight seasons for the Redskins and 49ers as a safety, starting Super Bowl XXII for Washington.

4. Began coaching career in the player personnel department for the Packers (1995-96).

5. Worked in college football for three years, serving as defensive coordinator at Morehouse College in 1997 (as well as secondary coach) and at Grambling State (1998-99, also serving as defensive backs coach).

6. Defensive backs coach for the Jets in 2000.

7. Spent 2001-03 as defensive nickel package coach for the Browns, then spent 2004 as the team’s secondary coach.

8. Spent 2005-07 as the Cowboys’ secondary coach, then served as assistant head coach/secondary coach in Miami from 2008-11.

9. When Tony Sparano was fired in December 2011, Bowles went 2-1 as the interim head coach the final three games.

10. Eagles defensive backs coach in 2012, promoted to defensive coordinator in October when Juan Castillo was fired.

11. Spent 2013-14 as Cardinals defensive coordinator before being hired by Jets.
